CHITTAGGONG, SEPT 18: Chittagong Divisional Child Journalist Conference was held at the conference hall of Favour Inn Hotel on Sunday morning. Chittagong City Corporation Mayor M Monjur Alam formally inaugurated and addressed as chief guest the conference organized by Mass-Line Media Center (MMC) and sponsored United Nations Children Fund (Unicef).
Chaired by Mohammad Shahidul Islam, director of MMC, the conference was also addressed by M A Salam, chairman of Chittagong Development Authority, Mohammad Yasin, chairman of Court of Settlement and former district judge, Nazimuddin Shyamol, general secretary of Chittagong Union of Journalist, Nurul Ajam Paban, news editor of Bangladesh Television Chittagong Center, Mohammad Kaisar Hossain, Unicef representative, Mohammad Saiful Alam and Safiul Alam, among others.
Monjur Alam, in his speech, said that the reports against smoking and drug addiction by child journalist can raise mass awareness in the society. Children can also develop creativity through journalism; he said adding that in the process the children will grow up as skilled manpower in future.
He hoped that the child journalists will be able play an important role in removing problems and sufferings of the society through the power of their pens.
Speakers at the conference said that the reports Shishu Prakash, delivered by child journalists have solved many local problems. But the children have to face many challenges in the work field, they added. They hoped that the child journalists will grow up as skilled and honest journalist in future and contribute in the society.
A total of 110 child journalists and their team leaders of Chittagong division took part in the conference.
